LET’S CELEBRATE!

CELEBRATING 50 WONDERFUL ISSUES
We’ve hit the BIG 5-0 and so it’s time to celebrate with you all. We have a whole host of FREEZE64 subscribers, readers and past interviewees looking back at the past 49 issues and sharing their thoughts, love and comments for the world’s no.1 Commodore 64 ‘zine. There are also quite a few cool photos to share with you 🙂
SECRET SQUIRREL INVESTIGATES
The intrepid squirrel is back and he has three new case files of hidden messages and rooms to share with you. This time round he investigates Enforcer – Fullmetal Megablaster, Gauntlet 2 (the intro), and James Pond 2 – Robocod. Impressive findings to share with you.
JULIAN RIGNALL’S ZZAPBACK! – PART 1
Our Julian is back with SIZZLERS and GOLD MEDAL winning games featured in ZZAP!64 issue 32 from December 1987. There were quite a few high-scoring games in the issue, and so we have split the feature into two parts. The games featured in Part 1 are: Maniac Mansion, Buggy Boy, and the SEUCK. Part 2 of this feature will be in issue 51 of FREEZE64.
THE MAKING OF FIREFLY WITH TONY POMFRET
A regular visitor to FREEZE64 H.Q. is the great Tony Pomfret who is the veteran Commodore 64 power-programmer behind top-selling Imagine/Ocean titles such as Hunchback 2, Mikie, Rambo… to name but a few. But after his unceremonious sacking from Ocean Software back in 1986, Tony moved over to Software Projects to produce his fast-paced action arcade shooter, Hysteria, which received a satisfactory 83% score from ZZAP!64. But in 1988, Ocean Software came knocking once more on Tony’s door and hired him back to produce their next Commodore 64 hit, Firefly. We’ve invited Tony over to FREEZE64 to find out exactly what happened, and how he went about producing Ocean’s FIREFLY.
WE DON’T DO REVIEWS!
Our very own Dan Tootill checks out the fabulous C64 PETSCII beat-up-up, Monstro Giganto, which was lovingly programmed by the great Tony Savona and his Pirates of Zanzibar team. A fab game worthy of a bit of FREEZE64 attention.
OUT OF THE ‘MOULDY CUPBOARD’
The mould it grows; but the games still load! Escaping out of the Mouldy Cupboard this time round is a quirky oldie from Probe Software called Alcatraz. There’s something a little familiar about this one!
NEW & EXCLUSIVE POKES ‘N’ CODES
You KNOW that we *love* to hack games for cheats and features, and this time round we’ve fiddled around with the game code to Soulless 2 – The Armour of Gods. As well as the obvious Infinite Lives, we also provide some POKES ‘n’ CODES to give you Infinite Energy, Infinite Bullets, Get the Gun, a Double Jump, and the ability to Walk Through Walls! It’s all happening here!
FRANK GASKING’S HIDDEN TREASURES
Frank shares his final Hidden Treasures feature where he reveals the truth behind the Commodore 64 version of Jail Break, and why Dick Tracy turned out to be a lacklustre game. Frank shares all.
And as always, it’s all wrapped up in a gorgeous A5 full-colour pro-print ‘zine posted straight to your door!
