IN FREEZE64 ISSUE 49:
COVER FEATURE: MYTH – HISTORY IN THE MAKING Christmas nineteen eighty-nine was a challenging time for the Commodore 64, but there was still life in the old Breadbin with impressive titles hitting the shelves and keeping the ever-loyal C64 fanbase firmly with their feet on the ground. We were being dazzled by the likes of Stunt Car Racer, and the amazing Turbo Outrun from U.S. Gold, which received a whopping 97% from ZZAP!64 magazine. And, in that very same issue from Xmas 1989 was another top-rated title, but this time round it was in the form of a stunning looking and sounding arcade adventure called MYTH – History in the Making. With such an epic title to discuss, we thought we’d extend our cover feature by two more pages, which allows us to play, report, hack, and cheat our way through the game for you.
DIARY OF A GAME – TRAN BY STEVE COLLINS Our next instalment of the making of TRAN by the great Steve Collins. We left Steve in the previous issue just as he finished tweaking the speed rates of his scrolling starfield. This time round he starts developing his ‘scorcher’ of an idea, which he calls Multi-phasers…
JULIAN RIGNALL’S ZZAPBACK! The fab Julian Rignall revisits 4 SIZZLERS from ZZAP!64 Issue 31 – Nov’87, which includes: Renegade by Imagine Software, International Karate + by System 3, Morpheus by Rainbird, and finally, Que-Dex by Thalamus. What does Julian think of the games today? Only one way to find out 😉
SECRET SQUIRREL INVESTIGATES Our intrepid fluffy rodent opens two new case files to investigate; one of them is hiding a large message from the programmer; and the second is a very small, but humorous message, which we get to discuss with its programmer – one of the advantages to being a popular C64 ‘zine 😊
EXTENDED DEVELOPERS’ DEN: PETER BARON We’ve featured his fab game on the cover of this very issue, and now it’s time to find out exactly what makes Peter Baron tick, and chat with him about his journey into the industry and his process of creating C64 games. It’s an incredibly informative and revealing interview, and exclusive to FREEZE64.
WE DON’T DO REVIEWS! FEATURING SOULESS II It’s TRUE! WE DON’T DO REVIEWS… but we just HAD to include a mini review of the recently released SOULLESS II – The Armour of Gods from ICON64 / Psytronik Software. It has been 5 years in the making, and we’ll let you know if this new explorative arcade adventure for the Commodore 64 is worth parting with your hard-earned cash.
NEW & EXCLUSIVE POKES ‘N’ CODES This is purely coincidental… we have a small collection of fun, useful and exclusive POKES ‘n’ CODES that you can use with Soulless SE, which was released back in August 2021. A fantastic update to an already cracking game… but just in case you need some assistance…
FRANK GASKING’S HIDDEN TREASURES Frank is back with another helping of Hidden Treasures for you to enjoy. This time round he reveals some interesting elements to Arnie 2, Topper the Copper, and Gold Train – incredibly revealing and interesting finds.
Tons of new and exclusive Commodore 64 content to get your teeth into 🙂
